You Be the Judge!
On this one, because of the many blogs and news items on the issue, we simply report what we read, although most of our information comes from Glenn Kessler’s April 12, 2011 post at “The Fact Checker”. Mr. Kessler writes for The Washington Post.
Even in the wake of President Obama producing a long-form birth certificate in an attempt to end the “silliness” the issue has generated, some have suggested that he spent around $2 million fighting the issue. (Presidential hopeful Donald Trump and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, among the notables and quotables to this effect.)
Mr. Kessler’s post suggests that this number is inflated, because it includes fees expended on other matters. You readers will have to be the judge on this one! However, even Ms. Palin knows the price of defending lawsuits . . . she was quoted as saying she spent over $500,000 defending against ethics charges that she labeled as frivolous in nature.
As co-contributor Marc said on Mr. Kessler’s article, it seems to have a little more gravitas. (BLOG EXTRA: Gravitas was one of the Roman virtues, along with pietas, dignitas, and virtus. Gravitas is commonly used to signify weight or importance.)
