Bankruptcy Filing Has Postponed Trial Until February 10, 2016.
We recently posted on the L.A. County Superior Court case where Layne Britton has sued Survivor co-creator Conrad Riggs and his business Cloudbreak Entertainment Inc. for $14 million in unpaid consulting fees, with Riggs losing the argument that the fees were incurred for legal advice (rather than simple business negotiation services). Trial was set to begin, but Cloudbreak filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy such that an automatic stay was in effect. The trial judge postponed the trial until February 10, 2016, with Riggs’ lead attorney indicating that the bankruptcy filing was “preemptive” (meaning the yet to be adjudged $14 million claim was the main “debt” in the case) and his client would be seeking to lift the automatic stay in bankruptcy court so the trial could proceed. We can hardly keep up with breaking events in this one.
Layne Britton, a law school classmate of co-contributor Marc, is the son of the late great Hollywood makeup artist, Layne “Shotgun” Britton, who has earned a Wikipedia entry.
