He Was An Appellate Jurist For Over 20 Years, Also Contributing To Broader Legal And Community Issues.
Our local Santa Ana appellate court will have a different complexion in the near future. Earlier, Justices Aronson and Ikola retired, becoming retired neutrals at JAMS. Now, we can report that Justice Richard D. Fybel has announced his retirement from the 4/3 DCA effective March 31, 2022.
Justice Fybel has authored 2,000 opinions (200 of which are published) during his 20-year tenure on the appellate bench. Co-contributors Mike and Marc have argued in front of him on several matters, reinforcing publicized perceptions about his careful legal scholarship and efforts to be fair to the parties appearing before him on any given panel. He also has co-authored a judicial ethic treatise “California Judicial Conduct Handbook” as well as lectured/written on the legal system during the Holocaust and Nuremberg Trials. Justice Fybel further served as president of Irvine’s University Synagogue.
We wish him well in his retirement.
