In The News, SLAPP: Maxine Waters’ SLAPP Grant And Fees Recovery Reversed On Appeal

This Updates Our Prior May 28, 2021 Post On The Case At The Trial Level.

            On May 28, 2021, we did a post on a trial court fee award in a defamation action brought by Joe E. Collins III against Maxine Waters, congressional seat opponents in the past, where a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted Ms. Waters’ SLAPP motion and awarded her $53,590 prevailing party attorney’s fees.  We now have an update for you.  On June 5, 2023, the 2/8 DCA reversed the SLAPP grant in the defamation case brought by Mr. Collins, which also means the fee award was vacated on appeal.  The case is Collins v.
